The most helpful tip I can give anyone who's going to write books is to use all your senses and be observant. If you pay attention to everything around, you will learn how everything around the world is different and unique. How people talk, how different people react to the same thing, how animals and plants live their lives, the different smells and sounds, how things feel both emotionally and by touch, and so forth and so on. Paying attention to things around you help you create characters, places, dialoges, and even conflicts. When it comes to details, nothings better than using the five senses; Touch, See, Smell, Hear, and Taste.
